Japanese Tea

March 28, 2021 Uncategorized

Hi Everyone,

I’m announcing that the next Doshinokai Foundation Zoom Cultural Event will be on April 10, Sat, at 11:30am (LA time). We will have a presentation on Japanese Tea.  We would like to introduce everyone to a gentleman who has a wealth of knowledge about Japanese Tea, Pedro Villalon.  He will be our guest speaker.   At this event you will enhance your knowledge and wisdom on tea. Let’s seek “Tea” this time!😊! Please save the date and time!!

Pedro Villalon lives in Canada and operates an unusual tea bar there.  They call him a tea hunter.

I met him several months ago through one of my long time Aikido students. We talked about tea and he said he would like to send me several different teas to try. So as soon as his tea arrived, I drank it.  It was called “Musashi Bancha Tea”😊.  At first I thought the name was too fancy, but when I drank it, Wow, I realized this is real bancha tea😊! The taste of the tea reminded me of tea from my childhood. My mother used to make this tea. It is hard to find this tea even in Japan nowadays. He found the place Miyamoto Musashi was born (Mimasaka Okayama Pref.) I immediately respected him as a real tea hunter and wanted to listen to his tea presentation. He has numerous connections with Japanese tea families and numerous experiences of researching real Japanese tea. I thought he was the right person to invite this time to our cultural event as a guest speaker.

He is going to have a presentation on tea including how to make the best tea and how you enjoy the tea. Watch and listen carefully😊. It’s just a cup of tea, but let’s enjoy the moment at this event (about one hour or so). We will give you more details later, but at this time I just wanted to announce the date and time.

“Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur” (ichigo ichie) This is Cha no yu spirit. In the near future we’d like to introduce Sado or the way of tea. First, let’s learn Tea😊

For a brief introduction about Pedro Villalon:

Pedro is a tea-hunter, entrepreneur and former marketing executive. A chemical engineer by profession, he worked 10 years for the multi-national company P&G in Mexico, the US and China. In 2009, Pedro and family moved to Vancouver lured by mountains, ocean and a thriving multi-cultural community. He and Brian Noble are co-founders at O5 Tea, Vancouver’s first-in-kind “third wave” rare tea bar and wholesale company. (Please visit; https://www.o5tea.com)

I look forward to seeing you at wonderful this event!

*Also, for those who sign up in advance, there will be a link where you can purchase tea from Pedro Villalon at a discount and you can prepare that tea while he is teaching us during the event.

*At the bottom there is a donation link. Although a donation is not required for this event, it would be greatly appreciated. We are suggesting $25 but any amount you wish to give will be humbly and gratefully accepted. All proceeds will benefit the foundation, helping us to present future cultural events such as this one.

Please join the event with your family and/or friends😊. Everyone is welcome!  Thank you!

Best regards,
